Buongiorno direttore,
Sono di origini di Lipari, vivo a Sydney in Australia. A settembre e ottobre 2023 sono stata a Lipari dove sono caduta e mi sono rotta il polso
Lo scopo di questa mia nota è di informare turisti e visitatori dell'accaduto e di prendere precauzioni nel percorrere la stradina tra Calandra ed ex Spiaggia Bianca in zona Sparanello per evitare possibili incidenti.

Il 25 SEPT 2023, a piedi ho preso "la strada vecchia", la vecchia strada che scenda da Lami-Pumiciazzo a Canneto, la strada che facevano i miei nei tempi passati. La strada, un pò bagnata dalla pioggia, arrivando in zona Sparanello sono scivolata e mi sono rotta il polso. Ahia!
La caduta mi ha portato al pronto soccorso all'ospedale di Lipari, radiografie, sei viaggi di ritorno in aliscafo e taxi da Lipari all'ospedale di Milazzo, per un intervento chirurgico e cure post-operatorie.
I viaggi a Roma e Bologna per visitare la familigla e incontrare amici sono stati cancellati.
La genta di Canneto mi dicevano, “Rosalie, non sei la prima, né l'ultima”.
Il 24 settembre 2023 Bartolino Leone, direttore, ha pubblicato sul Notiziario delle Eolie e su Facebook il video “Quando si metterà in sicurezza?”
Un cartello di avvertimento “scivoloso quando bagnato” o la modifica della superficie della stradina pezzo “bianco”, ora lo chiamo “a strada liscia”, può aiutare a rendere sicura la strada vecchina, zona Sparanello, dove camminano i turisti.
Attenzione agli escursionisti, dopo il cavalcavia- ponte, a Sparanello, se non si modifica il sentiero "bianco", utilizzare i marciapiedi rocciosi o la strada principale per evitare incidenti.
Grazie ai miei cugini Daniela, Giuseppe, Carlo, all’amica Caterina e ai medici per le loro cure e il loro sostegno.

Le generazione passate che vivevano nelle bellissime Isole Eolie celebravano il Natale secondo antiche tradizioni. Allora si viveva una vita semplice.
Questa è la storia (in inglese e in italiano) di un nonno dell’epoca moderna che ricorda come era il natele quando era bambino.
Past generations living in Italy’s beautiful Aeolian Islands celebrated Christmas according to old traditions. In those days life was lived simply.
This is the story (in English and in Italian) of one modern-day grandfather (nonno) who remembers what Christmas was like when he was a child.
An avid storyteller, “Christmas is one of the occasions in the year when the whole family gets together – and often the time that such stories are shared”, says Diana. The book with CD music and voice over narratives is a beautiful spring board for bringing the stories of our Aeolian ancestry into our homes.

Diana Santamaria and Gaetano Rando
Diana Santamaria is the daughter of loving migrant parents from two Aeolian Islands – Filicudi and Lipari. She was born, raised and educated in Sydney, Australia. Diana studied piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Graduating with a degree in education, Diana spent many happy years teaching English and music in high schools, tertiary institutions and privately. Diana published her first book and CD ‘The Secrets of the Pebbles’ in August 2011. Her writing, musical compositions and paintings are inspired by the Aeolian Islands. She visits the Aeolian Islands annually where she continues with her research for her publications.

Gaetano Rando
Born in Rome (Italy) in 1942, Professor Rando gained tertiary qualifications in Italian literature and linguistics at Australian and Italian Universities and has taught at the University of Western Australia, Griffith and Wollongong universities, the University of Auckland in New Zealand and universities in Perugia, Macerata, Florence, Lecce, Reggio Calabria and Catania in Italy.
He is a world authority on Italian-Australian studies and has published extensively on the language, literature and history of Italians in Australia. A recent book length publication is a study on Giorgio Mangiamele Italian Australian film maker and he has also recently published an extensive journal article on Sydney’s Aeolian community from 1900-1930. A NAATI accredited Advanced Translator in Italian to English and in English to Italian, he has also translated a number of literary and non-literary works of Italian Australian interest. His main teaching areas are Italian language and civilisation and in English Language and Linguistics. Professor Rando has successfully supervised and examined honours and higher degree theses in Italian Australian literature, Italian Australian language, socio-historical aspects of the Italian presence in Australia, contemporary Italian narrative, the sociolinguistics of contemporary Italian translation.
